Legal, Risk & Compliance Officer
AutoGuru is scaling fast. We’re expanding across Australia, New Zealand, and beyond, and we need a Legal, Risk & Compliance Officer who moves at the same pace as our engineering and finance teams!
Ready to thrive with one of Australia’s fastest-growing, most innovative tech companies on the sunny Gold Coast?
AutoGuru is scaling fast. We’re expanding across Australia, New Zealand, and beyond, and we need a Legal, Risk & Compliance Officer (LRCO) who moves at the same pace as our engineering and finance teams.
This role plays a key part in how we make commercial decisions by clearly assessing legal and financial risk.
The Role:
This is a founding role that directly influences commercial decision-making by balancing legal risk with outcomes. You’ll build and lead the legal function from the ground up, with clear ownership and real impact. While you’ll be building the function, you’ll also be hands-on in delivering legal work from day one.
AI is a core, non-negotiable part of how we work. We’re looking for a builder who uses modern tools to protect the business while accelerating commercial deals.
Establish and lead the legal, risk, and compliance functions from the ground up, transitioning from a new department into a mature, scalable business unit.
Act as a key partner to the CFO by translating legal risk into clear financial impact, helping the business make faster and more informed commercial decisions.
Embed AI into your day-to-day legal workflows to improve speed, consistency and reduce reliance on external counsel.
Protect the company’s legal interests and manage organisational risk as we scale operations across Australia, New Zealand, and international markets.
Work closely with the CISO to manage information security governance and ensure we maintain our SOC2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certifications.
Focus heavily on hands-on delivery, taking direct ownership of policy drafting, risk flagging, and contract turnaround.
Operate within a clear Delegation of Authority framework, owning low to medium risk decisions and escalating higher-risk matters where needed.
Provide strategic guidance to leadership, offering visibility into financial exposure and helping the board navigate high-level compliance decisions.
Your work will provide visibility to leadership and the board on key risks and financial exposure.
About you:
Tertiary qualification in Law (LLB or JD) and are admitted to practice in an Australian jurisdiction, with substantial Post Qualification Experience.
You’ve spent time in-house, ideally within a tech or SaaS environment, managing the unique risks and compliance shifts that come with rapid growth.
A proven track record of drafting and negotiating complex commercial and tech agreements. You know how to talk about financial risk and can navigate indemnities, liability caps, and payment structures with ease.
You don’t just know about AI; you use it. You’ve integrated AI-assisted contract review, drafting, or research tools into your daily workflow to stay ahead of the curve.
Experience across data privacy and intellectual property is essential to keeping our expansion on track.
Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
You are an expert in risk and stakeholder engagement, with the communication skills to translate complex legal risks into clear financial implications for the CFO and Finance team.
Familiarity with SOC2 Type 2 or ISO 27001 certification processes.
Experience with Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) platforms (like Ironclad, Juro, or Contractbook).
Deep exposure to trademarks and software patents.
Previous experience working hand-in-hand with a Finance team in a commercially-focused role.
